Word of the Year: Create
CREATE: My Word of 2025
For the past couple of years, I’ve been focused on expanding my commercial photography business, building a beautiful physical studio/office, and taking care of two young humans. This has been very rewarding, time consuming, and honestly, resource-depleting. I have put myself out there in all ways, both personally and professionally.
Wow - good for me, but whoa, that was a lot.
By the end of 2024, I felt proud and accomplished. I had achieved goals that were very business- and growth-focused. The infrastructure has been built - now is my time to CREATE and PLAY.
Emotional storytelling photography is my way of interpreting the world, asking questions, processing information, and connecting with people. While the camera is a precise tool, my best images have mystery, intrigue, and a sense of emotion and interpretation. Creating photos and being a purpose driven photographer is FUN! It is expansive, and it involves experimentation and investigation.
Creativity needs a lack of structure and some freedom, along with willingness to fail, to experiment, and to be an explorer and innovator. This requires space, time and the ability to be UNPRODUCTIVE (gasp, noooo)!
Taking the time to wander around with my camera, examining light, angles, and faces, and just *seeing* seems quite indulgent and reckless. After all - I am running a commercial photography business - and it is busy.
To my network: I declare a commitment to taking the time, making the space, and giving myself the permission to create, shoot personal projects, meet with other creators whose work I admire (like many of you), and reconnect with my inner inspiration and voice.
This is going to take intention, careful planning, and willpower. I cannot wait to share the results.
How do you make space to be creative and invest in yourself?
